The Yunus Centre organized a half day long Social Business Design Lab for the social business entrepreneurs and business persons with the presence of Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus on January 5, 2013. The program started with a short video presentation on social business by Yunus Centre. Then Professor Muhammad Yunus made a short introduction about the program. The purpose of the program was to discuss and brainstorm various social business ideas. Six social business ideas were presented in the program and they are- academic materials chain store to make cost of education cheaper for students and their families, increase income for street garbage collectors by eliminating the middleman, SDRS social business project, solar safe water system, mukto nari social business project, sustainable water supply through the social business approach, IT & Training firm for the disabled. After the presentation and question answering session, the participants were divided into six groups to discuss on a particular project and its feasibility of future implementation. Later participants from each group presented their findings. Many of the participants made strong commitment to implement some of the ideas for the benefit of the society. In his closing speech Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed his gratitude to the participants for coming with some wonderful social business ideas and hoped that the discussion will continue in future.
