Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan (“the Foundation”) has been a longstanding advocate for social businesses in Taiwan, promoting the "common good" model. To date, it has facilitated the establishment of Yunus Social Business Centres (YSBC) at 14 universities across Taiwan. These centres aim to integrate education and sustainable resources to cultivate students' awareness of the "3Zero" sustainability goals. Last year, Chihlee University of Technology signed an agreement with Professor Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, to establish a YSBC. In late May this year, Chihlee University of Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Foundation, marking a significant step forward in the development and innovation of social businesses.

Chihlee University of Technology is deeply committed to sustainable education, hosting numerous workshops and international forums each year. These events feature both domestic and international experts who share innovative insights with students. The MoU was signed by Chihlee University of Technology President, Chen Zhu-long, and Philippa Tsai, President of the Foundation, solidifying the direction and plans for their collaboration this year.

President Chen Zhu-Long expressed gratitude to former Premier Mao Chi-Kuo for recommending Chihlee University of Technology to the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan, which facilitated the partnership with the Yunus Centre in Bangladesh. The YSBC at Chihlee is led by the Dean of the College of Business Management, Liu Fen- Mei, who also serves as the YSBC Director. The centre promotes food conservation on campus and actively fosters industry-academia collaboration to nurture sustainable talent.

President Philippa Tsai, highlighted that since its inception, the foundation has adhered to Professor Yunus' vision of "zero net carbon emissions, zero poverty, and zero unemployment." The Foundation consistently organizes activities that engage students and broaden their horizons. Chihlee University of Technology frequently invites prominent speakers for campus lectures. Following the MoU signing, the university hosted a keynote speech by Chairman Ling Chung-Yuan of Chang Hwa Commercial Bank, who educated students on fraud prevention through engaging stories and practical advice, offering a valuable learning experience.

Since the establishment of the YSBC last year, Dean Liu Fen-Mei has participated in the Social Business Day in Malaysia, enhancing Taiwan’s presence in international academic forums. This MoU signifies a strong collaborative effort between Chihlee University of Technology YSBC and the Foundation in promoting social business development. Both parties will continue to work together towards creating a world with the "3 Zero" vision.
