Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty is dedicated to make healthcare affordable to all. He is currently acting as the chairman and executive director of Narayana Hrudayalaya, a leading network of hospitals based in India. His prominence in cardiac surgery began when he performed a heart surgery on a new born baby, the first case in India. Besides his stellar practice, he also runs a sizable cardiac surgical training program.

Dr. Shetty has made significant contribution in conceptualizing micro health insurance as tool for the rural farming population to access affordable surgery. By working with the Government of Karnataka state, Yeshaswini Micro Health Insurance was created. Till date nearly 3.5 million farmers have enrolled in the scheme.  

The Government of India recognized his efforts by awarding him the 'Padma Shri' and 'Padma Bhushan' Award.
